INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES with NSCAHH


National Conference Intern -

This fall, hundreds students from across the country will attend the 15th Conference of the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. The Conference is the largest gathering of college students working on the issues of hunger and homelessness in the country. Intern responsibilities will include contacting students and national activists to inform and involve them in the event, planning the Conference program, soliciting donations, and organizing logistics.


Food Salvage Intern -

Every year, schools working with the Campaign salvage thousands of pounds of food from campus dining facilities that would otherwise be thrown out. This food is donated to local soup kitchens and shelters to help feed individuals who are in need. Intern responsibilities include researching local programs, contacting national organizations that work on food salvage, writing food salvage updates to be sent to our network, updating our food salvage manual, and developing a series of fact sheets.


Internet Intern -

The Internet is an excellent resource for engaging college and high school students in community service and action. Intern responsibilities include redesigning and updating our web site, publicizing the site to other organizations, and building our listserve. Must be creative with a working knowledge of the Internet and web site design.


Curriculum Coordinator -

The Campaign is in the process of updating our Setting A New Coarse curriculum guide. Intern responsibilities include researching and collecting college level syllabi dealing with the issues of hunger, collaborating with national experts, and reviewing and annotating videos, periodicals, and books dealing with these pressing issues.


Public Policy Intern -

Through our SPLASHH (Students Pushing Legislative Actions to Stop Hunger & Homelessness) network, we work with a variety of organizations to mobilize students around local and national legislation that addresses the problems of hunger and homelessness. Intern responsibilities include contacting universities to develop our SPLASHH network, researching and writing a monthly action alert, researching and developing a list of leading state and national organizations, and updating our SPLASHH manual which helps students organize advocacy campaigns.


Qualifications: Interns must take initiative, possess strong communication skills, demonstrate concern about the problems of hunger and homelessness, and be organized and professional. Strong writing skills and artistic talents are a plus.

Benefits: Interns will develop a variety of skills, receive excellent training, and make a difference on critical social issues, while working in a vibrant, nonprofit atmosphere. Interns will also receive manuals and training materials on hunger and homelessness projects.

Time Requirements: 5-20 hours/week on average. Full-time internships are also available for a semester, the summer or a year. Internships are non-paid. In most cases, course credit can be arranged.
